PARTICULARLY CHARACTERFUL ORGANIC BISCUITS.

In 2001 Island Bakery Organics was born. Initially the range had just 4 varieties. Quality not quantity! Within the first year the company picked up several Great Taste awards and scooped an Organic Food award. They bake small, wholesome batches of organic biscuits made using local woodchip power and hydro-electricity on the Isle of Mull.

They do their best to be environmentally sustainable by using both organic ingredients, and local sources of renewable energy. Being organic is only part of the picture. Their new factory building is powered entirely with local sources of renewable energy. Electricity for the building is generated both by a hydro-electric turbine on the neighboring Tobermory river, and a single wind turbine set on a hill above the bakery. Unique ovens are heated using local wood chip from Mull’s abundant timber plantations. This is not only environmentally sustainable but the gentle heat gives the biscuits a slow, perfect bake.

DESCRIPTION

Island Bakery believes great biscuits come in many shapes, sizes and guises. They simply don’t get excited by timid tastes, ridiculously regimented uniformity or overtly flouncy formats. On the Scottish Isle of Mull they opt instead for making small, wholesome batches of magnificently melty hand-baked treats.

Although they insist on a strict ‘organic only’ code, they pride themselves on giving their biscuits plenty of freedom to express their individuality, which is why no two biscuits ever look quite the same.
